Year 6 Home learning materials are now available for you to access from this class page. I have put together files with reading, writing and Maths activities for you to access from home. See the links below. There are also web page links and plenty of other creative ideas to access whilst at home. I will update resources over time.

Welcome back to school! We hope that you have had a wonderful half term break and are now refreshed, revitalised and ready to try your very best as we continue our run up to the SATs in May.

In English we will be looking at letter writing, narrative writing and arguments. We will be using example texts to help us before innovating and inventing our own versions. The writing objectives we will cover will include: using dialogue to convey character, cohesion – including adverbials, conjunctions, pronouns and repetition, sentence structures and variation, editing and proofreading and correct text formation, layout and features.  We will also be revising grammar terms and practicing test technique to prepare for the questions on the SPaG SATs in May.

Our maths work this term will continue to be centred on our new scheme ‘Power Maths’. Our topics this term will include: percentages, algebra, area & perimeter, statistics and geometry.

We will also continue to practise our arithmetic skills and revise other areas of maths in preparation for the SATs in May. The children will bring home practise questions to help them revise and apply their skills. Please support your child as much as possible.

R.E - Jesus the Messiah

This topic gives the children a deepening understanding of Jesus and allows them to reflect on what they believe about their faith. They will understand that Jesus is the Messiah and will learn about the final journey that Jesus made to Jerusalem.  In addition to this, they will know about, and reflect upon the events of Holy Week and will deepen their understanding of the Resurrection.

In Science we will be contining to learn about light.  We will learn about sources of light, paths of light and shadows.  We will also begin to learn about electricity and learn how to build circuits including buzzers and switches.

In history we will be finishing our work on WWII,  we will look at the key turning points during the war and make links between events and changes; giving reasons for them and explaining the result.

As always, thank you for your continued level of support. If you require any further information, including important calendar dates, then please refer to the curriculum map which can be downloaded directly from this page.

I very much look forward to enjoying another exciting half-term with you all!

Mrs Harding.
