Class 8 Year 2 2018 - 2019

Mrs Steele

Welcome to Class 8's Home Page!

Welcome Back!

I hope you have all enjoyed your first week in Year 2! We are looking forward to a very busy and exciting first half term together in Class 8.

This half term our Science topic is 'Taking Care' and we will be finding out all about the basic needs of animals and humans, as well as exploring their different life stages. In English we will be exploring the story of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.

During Maths, we will focus on reading and understanding numbers to 100. We will use our growing understanding of place value to help sort, compare and order numbers. Within this term, we will revise our understanding of different representations of numbers and to show a number’s ‘tens’ and ‘ones’ and use this to help us to compare and order. You can help your child by playing games such as hide and seek, where they will get to practise counting down (10, 9...3, 2, 1, coming!), as well as singing songs such as ‘Ten Green Bottles’, by practising counting over the 10s bridges (for example 42, 41, 40, 39...).

Our P.E day will be a Tuesday, please remember your kits. Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due to be handed in the following Wednesday. Weekly spellings will be put into children's Spelling Practice books every Friday and will be tested the following Friday. It is very important that these are practised regularly alongside the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. A copy of which can be found in the files section of this page. Please remember to read with your child at least three times per week and record this in the reading diary.

Further details of our topics and objectives for this half term can be found in the attached Curriculum Map.

Many thanks for your continued support.
